SwitchLAN is a small Brisbane based LAN group, formed in December 2003.  Over the years we surged to running events for up to 80 players, but have recently come around to the idea that “less is more” and have begun running 40 player low-effort events.  This strategy has turned out to be quite beneficial for both the admin team and our community.

Smaller events are easier for us to plan and run and as a result, we enjoy them much more from an administrative perspective.  If there’s one thing we learned from running MotherLAN, it’s that bigger LAN’s don’t necessarily equal more fun.

We run a 100% gigabit network and four port aggregated links between each of our three 24 port switches.  This provides us with an ultra-fast network with no bottlenecks and ample capacity.  Here’s how we’re set up:
